The Best Route from Oxford to Heathrow
There are two realistic ways to drive from Oxford to Heathrow. Almost all of the time, the M40 is the right call — here's when it isn't.
The Car

The M40 route (usual choice)
From Oxford, the M40 south to its interchange with the M25 at Junction 1a, then the M25 to either Junction 15 (for Terminals 2 and 3) or Junction 14 (for Terminals 4 and 5), is the standard route and the one we use for the vast majority of transfers. It's the most direct option and the one Oxford's road signage points you towards.
The A34/M4 alternative
Heading south on the A34 to join the M4 eastbound is a genuine alternative, particularly useful if there's an incident on the M40 or M25, or if you're travelling from the south side of Oxford — Abingdon, Didcot, or Wallingford — where it's often the shorter route anyway. The M4 approach also reaches Terminals 2 and 3 via M25 Junction 15, the same interchange as the M40 route uses from the other direction.
Why it doesn't affect your price
Drivers choose whichever route is genuinely faster on the day, using live traffic information. Because the price is fixed to your address and terminal rather than the distance driven, which route is taken has no effect on what you pay.
